Choosing a poster size based on viewing distance

A general-purpose poster covers a wide range of jobs, from event promotion and retail window displays to presentations and simple wall art, and the right specification depends mostly on one question: how far away will people be standing when they read it?

A poster viewed up close, in a shop window or on a noticeboard, can use a smaller size like A3 or A2 with finer detail and smaller text. A poster meant to be seen from across a room or down a street benefits from A1 or A0 and bolder, simpler design, since fine detail is wasted at that distance.

Paper finish for indoor and outdoor posters

Paper finish affects both look and durability: a semi-gloss finish gives punchier colour for indoor use, while a matte finish reduces glare under bright lighting. If a poster needs to survive handling, weather or repeated display, ask about our more durable non-tearable stock rather than standard paper.

Printing the same poster design at multiple sizes

For a promotional campaign running across multiple locations, ordering in bulk brings the per-poster cost down substantially compared with printing a handful at a time, so it's worth confirming your full requirement before your first order rather than reordering small batches repeatedly.

If a poster is going somewhere it might get handled, touched, or exposed to some damp, such as a shop doorway or an outdoor noticeboard, our non-tearable stock is a more durable option than standard paper and worth the small extra cost over something that might need replacing within days.

If you're printing the same design at multiple sizes, for a shop window and a smaller in-store version, for example, tell us both sizes upfront so we can check the design still reads clearly once scaled down, not everything that works at A0 still works at A3.
